SAPA South African Penguin Alliance

Program

Food Security & Fisheries Advocacy

Defend feeding grounds through science-led policy and public accountability.

Problem

African penguins depend on sardines and anchovies. When prey shifts or fishing pressure concentrates near colonies, adults spend more energy finding food and chicks are at higher risk.

What SAPA does

SAPA funds public education, policy submissions, coalition advocacy, and evidence-sharing for science-based fisheries management and colony-adjacent protection.

Why it matters

This program connects donor support to practical conservation conditions: less disturbance, better evidence, stronger partners, and more resilient colonies.

Field note

A 2026 field update for this program will combine a partner quote, image credit, measured outcome, and donor-funded next step once seasonal reporting is complete.
