What is SAPA?

SAPA is an alliance model: a donor, education, advocacy, and partner-support platform focused on African penguin recovery. Governance, partner agreements, and annual reporting are published transparently as part of the alliance's accountability practice.

Are African penguins really Critically Endangered?

Yes. Conservation organizations announced in October 2024 that African penguins had been reassessed as Critically Endangered after breeding-pair numbers fell below 10,000 across South Africa and Namibia.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Donation documentation depends on the donor's country and the giving channel used. SAPA provides receipts and publishes clear guidance for South African and international supporters.

How will my donation be used?

Gifts support science-led conservation, partner rescue capacity, habitat restoration, education, advocacy, and transparent operations. Program-restricted gifts are reported separately from flexible operating support.

Can I volunteer in the field?

Some opportunities are field-adjacent, such as cleanups, education events, tourism guidance, and community stewardship. Direct colony work requires partner approval, safety training, permits, and age eligibility.

Can my company partner with SAPA?

Yes, if the partnership aligns with marine conservation goals and passes an ethics review. SAPA does not partner with companies whose practices directly undermine its mission unless credible transition commitments exist.

Can teachers use the resources freely?

Yes. SAPA education resources are designed for free classroom and youth-club use with attribution. Commercial reuse and translation should be cleared through the education team.

Can researchers access SAPA data?

SAPA will share public reports openly and route sensitive colony, partner, or unpublished data requests through a science review process.

May media use SAPA images?

Media may request approved images with captions, credit lines, and wildlife-safe context through the media contact. Unlicensed generated or stock imagery should not be treated as field documentation.
