## Why Nests Matter

African penguins historically nested in sheltered burrows and guano-rich habitat. Many colonies now include exposed nesting areas that can intensify heat stress for eggs and chicks.

## 2026 Priorities

- Replace damaged or poorly performing nests.
- Install new nests in heat-exposed breeding zones.
- Track occupancy and basic thermal performance.
- Document maintenance needs after storms.
- Compare design performance across sites.

## Donor Use

Habitat gifts fund materials, transport, local fabrication, monitoring time, and maintenance visits.
